How Many Calories Do You Burn Jumping on a Trampoline?

Like most exercises, the amount of energy you burn trampolining is dependent on a number of variables such as your weight, the degree of intensity of the exercise, the length of time you exercise and the frequency i.e. daily, weekly etc.

There are two different types of trampoline. The first is the large type that you find in a specialist centre. You will need coaching for this type of activity the same as you would need for any competitive sport, and the activity could certainly develop into something more than a simple augmentation to your weight loss program.

The other type of equipment is the rebound trampoline, a small - usually circular - trampoline which is sited only a few inches off the ground.

This type of trampoline is excellent for weight loss, it's use places no stress on your joints, and so there is little chance of injury, it improves circulation and increases the capacity of your heart and lungs.

It also increases your all round strength, stamina and general fitness, and builds up your muscles in the lower body areas of legs, thighs, waist , arms and hips.

Another great aspect of the rebound trampoline is that its use requires no special instruction or training, just set it up and get going! Because of the variables listed above it is difficult to say how many calories trampolining burns, so we can only generalize and say that 30 minutes will burn off somewhere between 100 - 300 calories.

It is a well-known fact that trampolining is a favourite exercise of NASA's and it is used extensively when training astronauts. their extensive research shows that trampolining is actually more effective than running in terms of fitness and weight loss, so it's definitely one to consider!

As ever, it's not really the type of exercise you do, it's the frequency that counts. If you can change your lifestyle so that you are doing 30 minutes' exercise at least five a days a week you will be well on the road to fitness, health - and weight loss!

Due to the small size of a rebound trampoline, it is equally as effective indoors as it is outdoors. Take it outside in the yard and enjoy some sunshine while you exercise, or if the weather is bad, take it inside and watch the latest episode of your favourite soap as you bounce your way to fitness.

If you want a toned body, a slim shape and improved fitness, get bouncing!
